Tourist Landscapes and Regional Identities in Saxony, 1878-1938.
- Authors
Murdock, Caitlin E.
- Abstract
In this article the author discusses the activities of middle class "Heimat" or "homeland" organizations and tourism agencies in Saxony, Germany, from their establishment in the 1870s and 1880s to the early years of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. The author notes that in the period between the two world wars social groups indulged in regional tourist travel in various parts of Germany and developed a series of travel cultures. In Saxony, by contrast, homeland movements remained a function of the Saxon people by urging them to participate in local tourism.
