- Abstract
The article discusses a study conducted to examine if amiodarone prevents sudden cardiac death (SCD) and cardiovascular death (CVD) in patients with cardiomyopathy. The results indicate that amiodarone decreased the incidence of SCD and CVD but did not reduce overall mortality in cardiomyopathy and also showed increased risk for toxicities. Further amiodarone is also found less effective than implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) shocks in reducing heart failure mortality rate.
