- Abstract
This paper aims to find out the role of media in creating political awareness among the educated youth in Pakistan. Data was collected from 180 respondents selected from three universities in Islamabad. The results highlights that youth takes interest in politics and media is acting as agent of political awareness. The findings illustrate that the most popular form of media among youth was social media and other online sources offered through internet. Newspapers too were reported to be read for gaining political awareness. The youth reported trust in media and considered newspapers and internet as authentic sources for national and international information. Political awareness among youth was clearly evident. The respondents reported to have awareness about the manifesto of political parties and realized the significance of voting. A number of them reported to choose the candidates for voting on the basis of personal abilities and party manifesto. The youth was optimistic that participation of youth in politics can bring change in the country. These findings indicate that media has responsibility to make youth aware and informed individuals.
