The author discusses early 15th century English poet Thomas Hoccleve's use of punctus elevatus punctuation in his holograph manuscripts, both for questions and non-interrogatory phrases, which are reproduces in the book "Thomas Hoccleve: A Facsimile of the Autograph Verse Manuscripts" edited by the author and A. I. Doyle. Hoccleve's handwriting, rising notes in oral diction, and subjects in English sentences are discussed, as well as conditional clauses, subordinate clauses, and comparisons in Hoccleve's poetry.
