- Abstract
The article focuses on a research that determines the methods used for calculations of median effect concentration values of chemicals with bioluminescent bacteria, which are primarily developed for pharcological and toxicological sciences. Six different bioluminescent bacteria have been evaluated using a method designed to estimate the effective median concentration. An overnight culture was also made for aerobic growth toxicity using a routine air accessible culture. Results indicate a variation in the sensitivity of toxicity among test organisms because no organism appeared to be uniformly sensitive to all compounds. The findings warrant the need for a variety of tests and organisms when conducting an environmental screen for ecotoxicity.
