The article presents a case study of Calgary Stampede in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Topics include the Calgary Stampede is one of Canada's oldest and most controversial public celebration; Calgarians who supported the rodeo would work hard to define themselves as Westerners; and audience of the stampedes were more interested in difficult, violent, but safe.
