- Abstract
This pilot project used the production of non-traditional texts including graphic novels and zines to engage Year 7-9 students and reimagine literacy in a small, special school setting. Students worked with zine and graphic novel artists to create their own zines and a collaborative graphic novel. Findings from this project offer implications for educators to reimagine literacy practices with middle years students including engagement with non-traditional texts, interactions with artists, self-publishing, and using diverse tools to support all students.
