- Abstract
The article presents information on research papers prepared by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Research is continuing under the contract with the Office of Research and Development of the Manpower Administration, U.S. Department of Labor. Michael J. Piore is examining the labor market information networks used and the kinds of jobs secured by Puerto Rican migrants to the Boston area. James E. Annable has related his study of the recruitment policies of large insurance and retail firms to a review of labor market information systems and their impact on the hiring of the disadvantaged. Leonard Davidson, a Sloan School doctoral candidate, is observing the process of recruiting and employing the disadvantaged, from the lifting stage at an innercity training center to placement on the job in plants of a large Boston area manufacturing firm. Under another grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Piore is studying patterns of wage determination. He is also working on a manuscript tentatively titled, "Essays in Economic Behavior, Social Mobility, and Wage Determination."
