- Abstract
This document is a letter to the editor of the journal "Child's Nervous System" discussing the significance of the dentate nucleus (DN) in relation to cerebellar mutism in pediatric posterior fossa tumor resection. The DN is a deep cerebellar nucleus that plays a role in functions such as cognition, planning, and controlling movements. The letter expands on the anatomy and function of the DN, including its efferent tracts and their motor and cognitive functions. It also highlights the importance of understanding the DN in surgical planning to avoid complications. The letter emphasizes that children are more susceptible to cerebellar mutism due to their higher incidence of posterior fossa tumors and less mature nervous system.
