- Abstract
The article focuses on the rights of indigenous peoples in electing and being elected using their own forms of organization, participation and political representation without being excluded from representation by political parties. A case study of the state of Oaxaca in Mexico is referred to, which focuses on the coexistence of two electoral systems in the municipal arena that use the "uses and customs" system to elect municipal authorities alongside a system of representation by political parties. The context of national debate about the subject in which the political parties participate is presented.
