- Title
Book Review: Violent Differences: The Importance of Race in Sexual Assault against Queer Men by Doug Meyer.
- Authors
Ralston, Kevin
- Abstract
In I Violent Differences i , Doug Meyer incorporates an intersectional framework to center race and sexuality in research that focuses on male survivors of sexual victimization. Meyer also argued that race plays a major role in the experiences for Black queer male survivors because of how sexuality and normative masculinity are constructed. Through the book's discussions of queer men of color, their gender expressions, the importance of challenging heteronormativity, and the harm normative masculinity can create through its anti-survivor discourse, Meyer concludes that there is a need to incorporate an intersectional framework when examining male survivors because it helps to highlight less apparent gender inequality.
