- Title
Knowing "The Unknowns": The Artwork of Chitra Ganesh.
- Authors
Shah, Svati P.
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the work of Indian-American artist Chitra Ganesh, who is known for her work across several media. According to the author, reading Ganesh's work as solely oppositional to mainstream art and to various marginalizing forces, such as colonialism, heteronormativity, and patriarchy, ultimately limits its ability to enter the canon and to question art historical categories and orthodoxies. Topics discussed include Ganesh's series "The Unknowns" and her use of photographic techniques.
