The article discusses the research which assessed the serum periostin levels in dermatomyositis (DM) patients compared with healthy controls. Topics covered include the criteria used in determining the DM patients to be included in the study, the serum periostin levels in the presence DM- interstitial lung disease (ILD) or absence of ILD (DM-non ILD), and the association of serum periostin levels with muscle disease activity in patients with DM.
