- Title
Looming Retirement Surge Takes on New Urgency.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the research paper "Looming Retirement Surge Takes on New Urgency," by Laura Cassiani, appeared on May 21, 2001 issue of the periodical "Canadian HR Reporter." The paper reports that Canada's workforce is aging, and the expected retirement of the baby boom generation has become a priority for labor and management interests. The view of labor and management is that the problem has become increasingly serious. All 800 labor and management representatives polled in both the public and private sectors expected to face significant problems in trying to replace retirees. Most of these individuals will retire between 2014 and 2026. Most management leader expected to be able to replace half of the retirees within five years, while labor representatives believed management would replace less than 50% of retirees. Both labor and management are focusing on recruitment and not training and development.
