- Authors
Panarelli, Marilena
- Abstract
Girolamo Mercuriale's treatise, "On Pestilence," was published in 1577 and has now been translated into English by Craig Martin. The treatise explores the plague that occurred in Venice from 1575-1577 and the medical theories and practices of Mercuriale during that time. The introduction provides historical context and highlights the tension between Mercuriale's misdiagnosis of the plague and the innovative aspects of his treatise. The translation includes a glossary, notes, bibliography, and index, making it accessible to both experts and a wider audience.
