- Abstract
The article emphasizes the need for a U.S. national investment in a new polar research vessel for the 21st century. It relates the impact of climate change and emerging geopolitical realities on polar marine research. It outlines the factors justifying the U.S. national investment in a new polar research vessel, including changes in polar marine ecosystems and the rates of processes controlling the extent of sea ice and glacial ice.
