- Abstract
This paper focuses on the implementation of ICT in the improvement of literacy levels in the primary school students. For this, three ideas are proposed: i) Reading and writing as literacy practices, ii) the place of reading comprehension and literacy in students' academic performance, and iii) ICT as a tool and, in some cases, digital resource that facilitate the reading comprehension and enhance academic performance. This writing exercise allowed to discern, among other proposals, that low levels of reading comprehension significantly affect students' academic performance, since these are fundamental bases for learning processes to be optimal and significant, given such circumstances, the ICT implementation and the application of digital resources help to improve such levels since it allows the students to take an active role in their learning, fostering innovative and enriching educational environments, since from the relationship between teacher-students and the ICT implementation, knowledge is built, encouraging students to learn to connect to information in a critical and reflective way.
