- Abstract
The article focuses on a study about the relationship between smoking and the risk of developing bladder cancer. It notes that tobacco smoking has been established as a risk factor for bladder cancer, adding that while tar and nicotine concentrations have been reduced in cigarettes, concentrations of certain carcinogens such as β-napthylamine and nitrosamine have been increased. Results show that cigarette smoking is a risk factor for such cancer in men and women while smoking cessation leads to a lesser risk of developing the disease. It discusses factors behind the strong cigarette smoking-bladder cancer relationship, one is increased awareness among smokers that results to earlier diagnostic workup.
