- Abstract
The article discusses a study which evaluated the utility of contemporary biomarkers for predicting cardiovascular risk when added to conventional risk factors. The study involved 5,067 participants without cardiovascular disease from Malmö, Sweden, who participated in a baseline examination between 1991 and 1994. The Swedish national hospital discharge and cause-of-death registers were used to monitor cardiovascular events. It was found that gains by using selected biomarkers to predict future cardiovascular events are minimal.
