- Abstract
Introduction: The technique of Kinesio Taping was developed in the 70's and its use as a therapeutic resource has grown greatly in recent years. Its effects have been investigated by several studies, evidencing improvement of pain, edema, muscle strength and joint stability. Objective: To evaluate the effect of Kinesio Taping on the volumes, lung capacities and respiratory muscle strength in healthy young individuals practicing physical activity. Methods: An interventional and analytical study, sampling for convenience, in men and women, with ages ranging from 18 to 30 years, practicing physical activity for at least one year. After spirometric analysis and questionnaire application with questions related to the practice of physical activity, the volunteers were evaluated through ventilation, manovacuometry and peak flow in three moments: experimental (kinesio with 50% of tension), placebo (kinesio without tension) and control (without kinesio). The bandages were placed on the sternocleidomastoid and rectus abdominis. Results: A statistically significant difference (p = 0.005) in minute volume and peak flow between the experimental application form (50% tension) and control (without kinesio) was observed. Conclusion: The application of the Kinesio Taping technique favors the improvement of minute volume and peak expiratory flow.
