- Abstract
The article deals with the problem of indirect communication in philosophy of Daoism and Buddhism; attention is focused on the concepts of emphasis and Nonbeing. The author shows how the concept of emptiness helps to communicate essential philosophical ideas of Daoism and Buddhism. While analyzing the concept of positive emptiness, the author highlights its features and importance for communication. The concept of emptiness in Daoism should be associated not with nihilism or lack but rather with potency and possibility. It is shown that the essential ideas in Chinese philosophical traditions are taught indirectly through the metaphor of silence.
