- Abstract
A critique is presented of the 17th century English play "The Dutch Courtesan" by John Marston, focusing on themes of the difference between the love of a wife and a courtesan and Marston's depiction of hypocrisy. Marston's portrayal of the social conditions of women, the moral aspects of the play's prostitute character Franceschina, and sexuality in the play are discussed.
