- Abstract
The aim of this article is to outline the main aspects surrounding the relation between Theology and science. It initially recovers the challenge on the part of Theology to establish a dialogical and open posture in its contemporary encounter with scientific reason. Based, above all, on fragments of the writings of the German theologians Karl Rahner and Jürgen Moltmann, it seeks to reconstruct the fundamental nuclei on which Theology and science are based. This allows drawing an essential distinction regarding the nature of each one. Then, the text exposes some of the limits and possible inconsistencies of the scientistic spirit reigning from Modernity. In the second section, it addresses the issue of whether or not Theology should be recognized as a science. It again emphasizes the problematic nature of the reduction of the scientific spectrum based on the principles of experimentality, emphasizing the interweaving of this with the phenomenon of secularization. Finally, it discusses some basic criteria that Theology needs to adapt to acquire the status of science, emphasizing the importance of its insertion as a discourse in the public space.
