- Abstract
An epidemiologic description of adult patients with HIV/AIDS at the University Hospital of Londrina-PR, from 2002 to 2006, based on the analysis of 497 medical records. Guided by a previously designed instrument, regarding demographic data research reveals considerable prevalence of infection in males (62%) compared to females (38%) living in Londrina (65%), low education level ( 58%), low income (68%) and independent professionals (20%), homemakers (17%), retired (7.6%) single (40%) and free union (34%). On clinical data, the main clinical complications which are the reason for hospitalization, concentrate: tuberculosis (28.2%), moniliasis/oral candidiasis (27.1%) and toxoplasmic encephalitis (22.5%), with an average of 9.4days of hospitalization; slight predominance of deaths in females: men (29.4%) and women (30.3%); causes of mortality: 37.2% for septic shock and 21.6% for dysfunction of multiple organs, and chances of survival after approximate 10 years after being diagnosed, there was a alight advantage for men (65%) over women (59.2%).
