- Abstract
The article offers information on the hackberry psyllids or the Celtis occidentalis. These plant-eating insects produce galls that serve as winter food for migrating birds. It enumerates the formation caused by psyllids including the budgalls, blistergalls, and nipplegalls, and points out an important feature in its life cycles. It mentions the rare birds that feed on them including the Gray Fletcher, Golden-crowned Kinglet, and Blackpoll Warbler. Tips to birders on how to take advantage of seeing this phenomenon are also offered.
