- Abstract
The target audience of cartoons has generally been children. Therefore, these productions, which children enjoy watching, have a very important function in terms of their socialization and awareness. Childhood is the period most vulnerable to influence. In this period, the effect of cartoons on the shaping of the subconscious is considered very important. Certain messages are conveyed to children through cartoons. Besides positive messages such as justice, love, equality, negative messages such as violence and sexuality are also conveyed in cartoons. These messages are adopted through the characters that children identify with. It is seen as a serious problem that negative indicators are planted in the subconscious of children, who are open to the influence of the media, through cartoons. In the study, which focuses on the archaeological framework and communicative functions of the cartoon, Freud's "Dream Theory" is detailed. In this context, the focus is on how sexuality is implicitly presented through symbols in cartoons. In this respect, the study aims to reveal the sexual elements that are implicitly presented through symbols in cartoons. For this purpose, the Netflix production "3 Below: Tales of Arcadia", which is frequently discussed in the Turkish media, has a high IMBD score and was found to contain quite a lot of sexual elements in the preliminary examination, was determined as a sample. The semiotic analysis of the film was made based on Sigmund Freud's "Dream Theory". In the analysis, it was determined that sexuality was generally presented implicitly through symbols in the analyzed cartoon and children's bodies were used as objects of sexual desire.
