- Abstract
Since its foundation, the Flemish College not only has proved its capability to successfully carry out its constitutive function, allowing an ever increasing number of students from Belgium and the Netherlands to attend the University of Bologna, but it also managed to enter itself in a constant and productive dialogue with the same Academy. In that perspective, the essay aims to outline the historical ties between these two institutions and to point out their consequent mutual enrichment. Starting from its founder's story and its original structure, the development of the institute established by Jean Jacobs is then retraced paying special attention to its relationship with the University. The clearest evidence of this bond is represented by the same men who led the College over the centuries, since its Rectors and Counsellors have always been chosen among well-known scholars who provided an unforgettable contribution to the School of Bologna with their work. In the end, the search about this privileged relation is completed with a focus on the fundamental 'linkening role' carried out by the Journal Archivio giuridico Filippo Serafini, on which pages many essays written by such jurists have been published since its foundation. In that sense, one could rightfully say that the University of Bologna, the Flemish College and the Journal Archivio giuridico formed a 'virtuous triangle' which keeps exerting its fruitful action to the present day.
