The article offers information on the development and role of the matters of public concern doctrine in defamation, termination of employment and publication of allegedly private facts under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It discusses the judicial decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Snyder v. Phelps, in which the Court differentiates between matters of public concern and matters of mere private interest.
