A word for sculpture in an expanded field.
- Authors
Wood, David C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the meaning of word for sculpture in an expanded field. It cites that the description of artist Barnett Newman on sculpture as something that bump someone when backing up to see a painting no longer begins to address the scope of the expanded field. It notes that the meaning of the word is not an isolated entity but reflects its place in a different grid as there are only two differences in language, which are word trace and mark differences. Artists who use different words in their sculpture is offered, including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Francis Bacon, and Joseph Beuys.
