- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Wissachickon Boys' Club in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the first all-black boys' club in the U.S. An overview of the accomplishments of Wissachickon Boys' Club director William T. Coleman, including his establishing of movie nights and competitions with athletic clubs and also in aiding families of arrested teens, is provided. The author contends that the Wissachickon Boys' Club was the only place black youths of Germantown could go freely in a segregated society.
