- Title
Editorial writing courses in decline, report says.
- Abstract
The article presents the findings of a report on the decline of editorial writing courses. According to the report the number of university journalism programs requiring a course in editorial writing has declined by about 50 percent in the time between a 1979 survey and a similar 1960 survey. The widespread belief is that because it is unlikely that journalism school graduates will write editorials for some time, it is better to drill them in the fundamentals of reporting and other courses. Editorial writing is no more a fundamental course; rather it is a frill course that is no longer popular among students or faculty.
