- Title
Spider silk: Webs measure up.
- Authors
Qin, Zhao; Buehler, Markus J.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the analysis of the orb web of spiders conducted by J. L. Yarger and colleagues using Brillouin light scattering to obtain stiffness tensors. It says that the stiffness of the dragline, viscid silks and silk junctions of the same orb web were mapped by the researchers and provide data regarding the alteration of elasticity of the silk threads. It adds that the construction of web overnight in dry conditions can benefit from morning dew as it stiffens.
