- Abstract
The article discusses peer relationships amongst infants and toddlers, highlighting the importance of the first three years of life in a child's development of social competence. The author focuses on developmentally appropriate methods for encouraging prosocial behavior in early childhood care settings, and special attention is paid to the importance of adult-child relationships. Other topics include young children's ability to differentiate between self and others, imitating behavior, and social play.
