- Abstract
The book "Indigenous Migrant Women: Gender and Ethnicity Crossroads in Contemporary Indigenous Migration in Panama" by Eugenia Rodríguez Blanco offers revealing data about indigenous migration in Panama, focusing on the Gunayala, Emberá-Wounaan, and Ngäbe-Buglé regions towards the capital city. Using ethnography and a gender perspective, the study analyzes sociodemographic trends, causes, and consequences of this migratory phenomenon. The book highlights the challenges faced by indigenous migrant women in the city, such as insecurity, urban violence, and gender discrimination, and concludes that migration does not generate transformative changes in gender or interethnic relations. Areas for future research are suggested, such as indigenous migration within families and the effects of the pandemic on mobility.
