- Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has become one of the most complex health-care crises in recent years with subsequent global economic consequences. The global impact of COVID-19 is the result of its sudden appearance, our insufficient knowledge and a large proportion of patients requiring intensive care treatment. COVID-19 is a multisystem condition affecting different organ systems (e.g. respiratory, nervous, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular etc.) with various and frequently severe symptoms and signs and the course of disease leading to physical deconditioning, decreased health-related quality of life and emotional problems. In light of this, Croatian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine of the Croatian Medical Association developed recommendations for acute COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 rehabilitation, primarily for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine specialists in order to create an individually planned rehabilitation program. The rehabilitation program is carried out by a multiprofessional team led by a Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine specialist, with participation from other health professionals (e.g. nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, social workers etc.) and other clinical specialists depending on the patient's clinical symptoms.
