- Abstract
The article describes methods for preparing thermoset elastomer products from brominated poly(isobutylene-co-isoprene) (BIIR). Latent forms of ammonia, primary amines, and cyclic amidines are used to obtain control of cross-linking dynamics. Results show that BIIR cross-linking by repeated alkylation of standard nitrogen nucleophiles is too fast at standard polymer processing temperatures. The relationship between latent nucleophile activation and BIIR cure dynamics is also explored.
