- Title
Creating From Nothing: Swinburne and Baudelaire in "Ave Atque Vale.".
- Authors
Brennan, Thomas J.
- Abstract
The article presents a literary criticism of the poem, "Ave Atque Vale," by Algernon Charles Swinburne. The poem is an elegy for French poet Charles Baudelaire. The author describes and discusses previous criticism by Harold Bloom, Gilles Deleuze, and Yopie Prins. After comparing Swinburne's work to Baudelaire, Shelley, Catalus, and others, he determines that the elegy accepts a poet's death since he will live on through his work.
