- Abstract
An essay is presented on the competence, legitimacy, and proportionality of criminal sentences in the U.S. as of May 2012, including an analysis of the three strikes mandatory sentencing laws of several U.S. states such as California. The legal treatment of repeat criminals offenders is also addressed in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the Ewing v. California case.
