- Abstract
The author offers literary criticism and analysis of Henry James's novel "The Bostonians." The author focuses on James's opinion of the city of Boston, which he calls a "puritanical capital." A discussion is presented about one of the novel's main characters and the literary community at the time James was writing "The Bostonians." A discussion is presented about how fellow Bostonians Annie Fields and Sarah Orne Jewett helped inspire the portrayal of the characters in the novel. Details related to James's life are presented.
