Title
Palaeoclimatology: Global cooling.
Abstract
The article discusses the challenge by researchers Zhonghui Iiu and colleagues at Yale University regarding oxygen-isotope records which suggest the occurrence of a simultaneous accumulation of ice cover in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Topics include the team's calculation of sea-surface temperatures from 34 million years ago using chemical proxies called tetraether and unsaturated alkenone, which were found in sediment cores from locations around the world, to explain the discrepancy.
