- Abstract
The article focuses on the action of Brazil on environmental concerns, specifically the deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest. The country's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula), has mounted a military-style crackdown on deforestation in the Amazon in January 2008, a month after the government proclaimed that deforestation rates had dropped 59% over the previous three years. It explores the move of the Brazilian police forces, who are blockading roads, conducting aerial surveys and inspecting agricultural and logging operations.
