- Abstract
The article presents a study to determine the bioavailability of alternative primary substrates by microbial consortia and evaluate the feasibility of biodegrading trichloroethylene by different microbial consortia using substrates released from molasses and sludge cakes. Based on the experimental results, the favorable bioremediation conditions can be determined and in situ biobarrier system can be designed to bioremediated trichloroethylene contaminated groundwater passively and cost-effectively. A bioavailability test was conducted in this study. This bioavailability test was modified biochemical oxygen demand experiment.
