The article offers information on the computer-assisted orthopedic surgery (CAOS) and its difference with conventional orthopedic surgery. Topics discussed include advantages of computers to increase the accuracy and the reproducibility of interventions; surgical treatment that are based on computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) images; acquisition and maintenance of CAOS applications; Augmented Reality and its limitations; and calibration of surgical instruments.
