- Abstract
In this study, the studies and approaches of Hans-Wolfgang Nickel, the pioneer of play and theater pedagogy in Germany, were examined. The study was designed with narrative research, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The biography study approach was used among the types of narrative work. In the research, after the literature review (bibliography study) about Hans-Wolfgang Nickel in the field of play and theater pedagogy, different data collection methods and techniques were used to reach up-to-date information in the primary resource. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by thematic analysis, which is one of the types of narrative analysis. The findings obtained from this research have shown that Hans-Wolfgang Nickel’s approach to play and theater pedagogy, which has been studied in Germany since the ‘60s, is an approach that feeds on many different fields, and aim of which is to make teachers and students active. It has been also concluded that it made significant contributions in the development of creative drama in Turkey with communication established since the ‘80s.
