- Abstract
This article presents a discursive analysis of the mechanisms of moral disengagement identified by Bandura (1994, 1999) in the statements of Álvaro Uribe Vélez (hereafter, AUV) about the massacre in San José de Apartadó (2005) and the extrajudicial executions in Soacha (2008). First, the statements of these declarations were examined from the categories of discursive subject, conjuncture and imaginary formation in order to understand both the context of production of AUV's discourse and the imaginaries that were formed of the victims of these events. Then, the mechanisms of moral disengagement in AUV were identified. It is concluded that the predominant mechanisms are victim blaming and dehumanization. In addition, AUV discursively established a dichotomy between those belonging to the "homeland" and those who do not, so that the excluded subjects are blamed for the inhuman behaviors of which they were victims.
