- Abstract
The article discusses the efforts of Italian American organizations to advocate for the liberalization of American immigration policy, particularly toward Italians, during the Cold War. It comments on the 1948 Letters to Italy campaign, in which Italian Americans wrote to their families and friends in Italy to encourage them to vote for Italy's Christian Democratic Party. Other topics include Italian-American anti-communism and the work of the organizations the American Committee on Italian Migration (ACIM), the U.S. National Catholic Welfare Conference (NCWC), and the Italian Welfare League (IWL). The 1953 U.S. Refugee Relief Act (RRA) is also considered.
