This essay presents an exploration of the ontology of Japanese architecture, particularly in relation to the Shinto shrine, the shikinen sengu. The author presents the practices and aesthetics of architecture as a manifestation of the supporting culture and therefore the arts are unique and reflect the particular culture's conceptions of reality.
