- Abstract
Periodontal disease is one of the most widespread infectious diseases in humans. It is characterized by inflammation of periodontal tissues, followed by deep alveolar destruction, which ultimately lead to the loss of even healthy teeth. Recent research attempts to determine the interrelationship between periodontal disease and a series of General conditions, the vast majority of studies being limited to the epidemiological aspects of this correlation. The concept of biofilm and oxidative stress has led to the understanding of other terms of periodontal diseases and the links between diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, premature birth, etc.
