- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of credit rating agencies in the financial market in the U.S. Numerous challenges are facing the industry and the U.S. Congress has plans to improve the lack of real competition, lack of accountability and the presence of conflicts of interest in the market. There is a need for reform in the system used by credit rating agencies. Lawmakers are working closely with the Financial Executives International's Committee on Corporate Finance to increase the number of Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations.
