- Abstract
The article discusses standardized protocols, developed by the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network, to facilitate epidemiological studies of populations that have been, or may be in the future, exposed to volcanic ash and gases. Topics covered include the consequences of volcanic eruptions for human health, the challenge to identifying and quantifying health impacts from volcanic eruptions, and the various stages of the protocol development.
